Cats - Illustration Friday

When I was a young girl, I remember having several bottles of bubble bath; bottles shaped like tall, slim cats. These bottles were made out of a hard plastic, and were usually pastel-colored. This was my inspiration for this week's Illustration Friday topic, "Cats."

When coming up with my design, I started with pastel colors, but played a bit with the color trying to get a more calming hue. After intially sketching my cat by hand, I went into Adobe Illustrator and digitally drew the cats; I then added the background, color, texture and highlights in Adobe Photoshop.

Hey Trisha! I remember having bottles like that too. There were also pink poodle shampoo bottles. Great inspiration. Your tall skinny cats are great. I love the tail sticking up on the middle one. Have you tried the Live Trace feature in the latest Adobe Illustrator? If you like a slightly sketchy look to your lines, it saves you the step of having to redraw your sketch. Anyway, wonderful colors and I love the soft background texture.

I'm totally amazed that everyone remembers their bubble bath days! Why, in my day we used 20-mule team Borax... and liked it! But seriously, these are seriously great cats (even if I was bubble-bath deprived as a child). Very nice. Peace.

What a great way to depict cats - bubble cats!

I love the colours you've chosen and I love the way you've arranged their tails to go in different directions - and as I look at them I'm beginning to believe I had cats like this with bubble bath inside... too convincing!
